Sweat, Tears, and Hard Work! It's XC Season!

The Cross Country starts out hot as both the boys and girls compete in the bi-county meet. There were six teams that competed in Tuesday's meet. The teams came from the counties of Adams and Wells, therefore Bluffton, Norwell, Adams Central, South Adams, Belmont, and Southern Wells are all the schools that competed Tuesday. Unlike most meets, this meet was divided into 6 miles with a team of two. Each team had two players from the same school. The girls or boys would each run a mile and then switch off with their partner. Each person ran three miles.
The girls as a whole placed 3rd. Meghan Yencer and Brooke Penrod was Southern Wells' fasted team. The two girls finished 7th. Following close behind came Shelby Skidmore and Chloe Maddox placing 8th. The boys had a tough meet, with very competitive runners. The boys team placed 6th. Nick Childers and Ian Klowetter placed 15th. Mason Stevens and Bryce Paxson followed with placing 17th.
I spoke with Coach Rhodes after the meet, he believes that the three seniors, Meghan Yencer, Brooke Penrod, and Shelby Skidmore, will do great. He sees potential following them as the Juniors did very well tonight. He also sees quickness in the upcoming underclassmen. Coach Rhodes sees the girls hopefully advancing onto regionals. As for the boys, he sees hope in the future but the Cross Country boys are all young. The team consist of one junior (who has never ran before this season), one sophomore, and two freshman. He hopes that their will be a regional siting in the boys in the upcoming seasons. Coach Rhodes hopes to see both teams succeed this season.
