Student of The Week

It is the end of the school year, and this will be the final student of the week article until next year. For this week, Brooke Kratzer has been chosen as the candidate.  Brooke is a senior this year, and her favorite teacher is Mr. Lavanchy. A question that many people ask themselves or other people when they go to Southern Wells is; how do you feel about going to school in a circle? Brooke says going to school in a circle is neat, I can only agree. There are many interesting and intriguing facets to Brooke. For instance, when she grows up she would like to be a photojournalist. Another tidbit, Brooke's celebrity crush is
Chad Michael Murray. We all have many places we want to go in our lives. However for Brooke, if she could go anywhere she would go to anywhere that is warmer and prettier than Indiana. Brooke's Middle name is Nicole, so her full name is Brooke Nicole Kratzer. Everyone has a favorite meal, it just so happens to be that Brooke's favorite meal is Country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy(ironically what we are having for lunch today). Also while we are on the topic of food, with regards to the most controversial sandwich name known to man, to Brooke, it is a Cheese Toastie. If Brooke could be any animal, she would be a giraffe because they are fairly tall. Some of Brooke's favorite things to do are softball, gymnastics, photography, and writing. Brooke's favorite car is a Jeep Wrangler because she says they are hot. For the subject of music, Brooke is eclectic(she likes every kind of music), and her favorite band is Daughtry.

Baseball Game

Tuesday night the Bluffton Tigers came to Southern Wells the second game between the two teams this season. Triston Niblick was on the mound pitching for the Raiders. He had a strong performance for the Raiders pitching for 7 innings.  Brad Woodward and Triston Niblick had a couple good hits throughout the game as well. The game was tied in the last inning with Evan Huffman on third but they could just not get him across for the winning run. The game went into extra innings when the score was tied 5-5. Jacey Dunnuck came in and pitched for the Raiders for the 8th and 9th inning. A couple of errors for us, and a couple good hits from Bluffton was the difference though. Bluffton scored 5 runs in the 9th inning. The final score would end up being 10-5. The Raiders will be back in action tonight, when they host Randolph Southern. The Randolph Southern game will be Senior Night, so come out and support your Raiders.

Student of The Week

Terry Culbertson is the student of the weeks this time around. He does not feel very strongly about going to school in a circle, nor does he have any specific favorite teacher. How ever vague Terry's favorite teacher and how he feels about going to school in a circle are, his celebrity crush is rather specific. It just so happens to be that Terry's celebrity crush is no other than We're The Millers' Jennifer Aniston. Terry's middle name is lane, so his full name is Terry Lane Culbertson If Terry could go anywhere, Terry would go to Hawaii to see Pearl Harbor. For terry, his favorite food consists of seasoned ground beef with toppings like salsa, lettuce, and cheese over a tortilla. By this you can probably tell that Terry's favorite food is tacos! While we are on the subject of food, with regards to the most controversial sandwich name known to man, Terry is a man of similar thinking. To terry, the sandwich will always be known as a grilled cheese. If Terry could be any animal, Terry would be a white tiger, such an exotic choice! Some of other info about Terry is that he likes to ride quads is one of his favorite things to do, and that the '68 cuda is his favorite care because they are sexy. Lastly, Terry's favorite genre of music is country, and his favorite artist for his country genre happens to be Alan Jackson

The Kentucky Derby: American Pharaoh Wins It All

The Kentucky Derby is a horse race that is had at the end of the Kentucky Derby festival on the first day of may every year in Louisville, Kentucky. There are many different things associated with the Kentucky derby. Two of the Main things associated with the Kentucky Derby are large decorated hats, and gambling. The tradition of women wearing a large decorated hat to The Kentucky Derby has gone on for as long as some people can remember. The hats can contain anything from bows to feathers to bees and almost anything in between. Betting on the horse that you believe will win has existed since the first Kentucky Derby whether it was betting on a large scale facilitated through people, or just betting your best friend five bucks if his horse wins. This year the horse American Pharaoh came from behind in a stunning win against Firing Line in second, and Dortmund in third. Even if you are not a fan, frequent viewer, or a viewer at all of the Kentucky Derby, the final race even had me on the edge of my seat. You can watch American Pharaoh's sprint to victory in the video below.

The Fight

Saturday night the most anticipated fight of the year happened. The two best boxers in the world fought at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight was between the undefeated Floyd "Money" Mayweather, and Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao. Mayweather is still going for perfection with a record of 48-0 now. Mayweather stood out in the beginning of the fight winning the first couple rounds. Pacquiao then took his share winning a couple rounds. However the rest of the fight went Mayweather's way. He was just too much for Pacquiao winning rounds 7-12. Mayweather won the fight unanimously on the score cards. After the fight was over though the news broke out that Pacquiao hurt his shoulder before the match started. He wanted shots of pain killers but he was not allowed to have them. Now that the fight is over Mayweather is preparing for his next fight in September. While Pacquiao is waiting for his surgery on his shoulder.

The Raiders took the scores of 47 (Cameron Lightle), 54 (Tristen Hanauer), 55 (Tanner Thompson), 59 (Damion Watters and John Gearheart). The Raiders will be back in action at Wes-Del Thursday night.

Golf Review

This season of Golf has been one for the books although there is no seniors and no stand out golfers. The team is really having a good time, the coaches and players are all having a great time while making memories, next year the team will be losing no one to graduation so they should be a half way decent team next year. Coach Palmer and THE Ez Harris are great role models for the young golfers. We will have one more post at the end of the year to round things up and mention awards for best putter and so forth. Stay tuned for updates throughout the season.

Student of The Week

Our new student of the week wants to do big things with her life. Jordan Wygant, wants to be a surgical tech, or an ICU nurse when she grows up! Jordan's favorite teacher would have to be either Mr. Roush or Mr. Painter, and she likes going to school in a circle because it is easy to find your classes she says. Jordan's middle name is Ann, so her full name is Jordan Ann Wygant. Her celebrity crush is Theo James. If jordan could go anywhere, she would go to Paris, France to see the Eiffel Tower. While many people if they go to Paris, France would have their favorite meal, Jordan wouldn't because she doesn't have a particularly favorite meal. If Jordan could be any animal, she doesn't know which one she would be. That is because she hasn't really given much though about being an animal. On the subject of the most controversial sandwich name known to man, Jordan says it is definitely a Cheese Toasty. With her time, Jordan likes to play volley ball, hang out with friends, go shopping, and sing. Jordan's favorite car she says is one that gets her where she needs to go, as she doesn't have a specific favorite one. Lastly, Jordan's favorite type of music is country and rap, and she currently does not have a favorite band or artist.
